Let’s Talk African American Issues
I started this blog to discuss issues that concern African American people. In recent weeks we have heard about the “Jena Six” a group of black high school aged boys who were arrested after a fight with white schoolmates in Jena, Louisiana, who are possibly facing life sentences. This case has captured the attention of people all over the world and has raised much distress in the black community. There is a story in the the Examiner and the about this case.
Two years ago a similar case occurred in Georgia that involved an African American high school football player. He was sentenced to 10 years for consensual oral sex at the age of 17. He was released after serving two years in prison and not to mention he had no prior criminal record.
There is a story in the New York Times about this case.
Both of these cases raised and are raising anxiety.
Although we may think it doesn’t affect us….IT DOES! As a people we are still licking our wounds trying to heal from our brutal past of slavery. There is still a constant reminder of our complexions. There is still ignorance! This blog is meant to address real issues in the African American community.
It’s time we speak up and get involved!

Reading all of the different articles on the Jena Six has made me think. How far will the lawyers, judge go to convict the si boys. They are even saying the boys sneakers were used as a weapon. What? Get real racism makes you do some crazy things. It really upsets me to see these young boys possibly facing life in prison. Check this site out, blackamericaweb.com to read more.
